Pretend.

You always pretend a little too much.

That little vein jotting out on your forehead

As you try not to look.

You always make efforts a little too much.

That side glances you try to steal,

And get caught.

Oh, but what a waste of all that,

Don’t you know darling,

You can’t pretend to the one

Who knows every inch

Of your skin,

Every shift

Of your eyes,

Every movement

Of your lips.

Don’t you know darling,

You can’t pretend to a pretender.
